Oct 05-08 – South Lake Tahoe Food and Wine Festival
Oct 11-31 – Cross Country Natural Gas Road Trip
Traveled though 24 states plus the District of Columbia

This adventure grew to what it has become, due to my wanting to meet an aunt and other east coast relatives, and putting a tentative California-Pennsylvania route on a CNGchat.com post. This trip has now been completed; to see daily posts, under “CATEGORIES”, select “2012-10 Green Across America Road Trip” (posts will then be listed in reverse chronological order).
Special thanks goes to CNGchat founder Curtis Martin, American Honda, and the other sponsors listed at GreenAcrossAmerica.com.
The CNG stations visited are listed below along with fuel usage and costs for the cross country trip:
CNG Fuel Usage as of 1 Nov 2012
Fuel costs comparison: (based on a gasoline average of $3.67 from USA Today):
Eastbound (1-way): $171.65 (CNG) vs. $335.87 (gasoline)
Round trip: $374.05 (CNG) vs. $725.49 (gasoline)
The eastbound trip took 12 days and included 10 events (as well as a wine tasting morning and a family reunion day). The westbound trip took 10 days and included 11 events (as well as a day off for local sightseeing).

October 2022 Travel
Decided to do a 10 year anniversary CNG cross-country trip and started in San Pedro, CA with a brief stop at America Honda headquarters in Torrance, CA,…

followed by a short visit with Curtis Martin, the current owner of the NGV driven in 2012. The rest of the trip was filled with sight seeing and visiting east coast relatives again. I had my cousin, Mary, along as my co-pilot. Having come from China in the mid-80’s, she’d never been to most of the places we visited and blogged in WeChat to her Chinese friends in Taiwan and China on about the places we visited.

Here’s the CNG fueling details for this trip.

Routes are a bit more direct this go around.
